Day at the museum

Travel back in time and enjoy a unique learning experience at one of Ridgefield’s renowned museums. Become immersed in colonial America and rural life in 20th Century at the Keeler Tavern Museum. Then, head over to the Weir Farm Art Center and National Historic Site to visit the home of beloved impressionist painter J. Alden Weir and tour around the 60 acres of beautiful woodlands that surround his estate. After, take a trip to Main Street and follow the signs of the Museum in the Streets to uncover the history of Ridgefield.

Let your children’s imagination run wild and have them take an art class at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum or at The Ridgefield Guild of Artists. Specialty workshops in drawing, painting, and sculpting are offered weekly as well as general classes that work on specific artistic skills. Both The Aldrich and The Ridgefield Guild of Artists also offer summer programs to help bring out your child’s inner artists while school is out.

Fun in the sun

Ridgefield’s beautiful natural surroundings are just waiting to be explored and enjoyed. Grab some hiking boots and take the kids on a walk through the majestic wooded hillsides and greenery of Hemlock HillsPine Mountain, or the Garden of Ideas. Or, stay downtown and spend the afternoon at Ballard Park where you can picnic, take part in some lawn games, and relax in the shade. If you kids love to skateboard and rollerblade, you can take them to Graham Dickinson SPIRIT Skate Park and have them try out a few new tricks.

When the summer haze starts to set in, there is no better way to cool off than to hit the beach. Spend time with the family at Ridgefield’s fantastic Martin Park Beach where the kids can swim, kayak, canoe, and paddle board. Don’t forget to pack a picnic and bring an umbrella for some shade!

During the summer months, families can spend their evenings at Ballard Park listening to some live music. These free concerts presented by CHIRP happen every Tuesday and Thursday and feature acclaimed musicians from around the world.
