Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center is a beautiful, four-acre site in the heart of Ridgefield, CT that tells the town’s – and nation’s – history through the stories of its past residents, with a focus on the colonial era through the early 20^th century. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the site features several historic structures, including a historic tavern museum, carriage barn, Garden House and walled garden, and newly renovated Visitor’s Center. Our guided tours, rotating exhibits, in-person and virtual programs, and community events connect past and present, providing interactive experiences for visitors of all ages.

What about the cannonball?

On April 27, 1777, British soldiers fired on the Keeler Tavern during the Battle of Ridgefield, Connecticut’s only inland battle of the Revolutionary War. The Tavern was likely targeted due to its role as a location for community and communication – and for owner Timothy Keeler’s Patriot allegiance. One of the cannonballs struck the Tavern’s corner post and remains embedded there today. Visitors to our site can learn more about how the residents of the Tavern experienced this Battle on our guided tours.
