This September, Ridgefield is busy with incredible events and things to do all month! As we say goodbye to summer and welcome the crisp fall season, make sure to enjoy all the things to do, family-friendly events, and shows and performances happening in Ridgefield this month.


Rhiannon Giddens & Friends

September 10th @ 8:00pm
The Ridgefield Playhouse
Rhiannon Giddens is an acclaimed musician who uses her art to excavate the past and reveal bold truths about our present. Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, Giddens’ partner in music and life, will travel from their home in Ireland to perform with her in support of their new album, “They’re Calling Me Home.” Visit Bailey’s Backyard for dinner the night of the show and receive 10% off when you show your ticket!

Fall Book Sale
September 10th-13th and September 17th-21st
Ridgefield Library
Join the Friends of Ridgefield Library and see what treasures you can find! The first weekend of the sale will feature children’s books. The following weekend will include the general sale, offering thousands of items arranged in dozens of categories. There’s something for everyone!

Singing Workshop with Jaime Babbitt
Starts September 12th
Ridgefield Theater Barn
Sign up for this six week course with Jaime Babbitt. Each student will select a song to be performed at the “Piano Bar…n” in October. Classes consist of group warm ups and working on each person’s song, with voice and performance technique feedback that will benefit all.

“The Suburbs” by Thrown Stone
Through September 12th
Keeler Tavern Museum, The Aldrich, and West Lane Inn
Thrown Stone has commissioned three new plays by Tony Meneses, Phanésia Pharel, and Catherine Yu in a single “roving production” where the audience follows the action from location to location. The plays will explore the theme of The Suburbs, with Ridgefield in the starring role.

Art Walk 2021
Through September 12th
Downtown Ridgefield
The Ridgefield Guild of Artists presents Art Walk Ridgefield, when the streets of downtown Ridgefield turn into a strolling art gallery. Art is available for purchase through the Ridgefield Guild of Artists. Proceeds benefit The Guild and the artists.

A Garden of Verse Poetry Series
September 14th, 21st, and 28th
Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center
Throughout the month of September, Keeler Tavern Museum will host a series of Tuesday evening poetry readings in the museum’s historic, walled gardens. Readings are free and open to the public, bring your own chair or blanket. The poets’ books will be available for sale. 

Beyond Limits Exhibit
Opens September 17th
RPAC Gallery
The RPAC Gallery, in collaboration with D.Colabella Fine Art, presents “Beyond Limits,” featuring the work of Guy Stanley Philoche. Following his successful sold-out exhibition in March of 2020, Philoche decided to use his funds to purchase artwork to show support for fellow artists who were struggling due to the pandemic. Philoche will be sharing the spotlight with a handful of artists who are featured in his collection.

“A Land of Opportunity?” Exhibit
Through September 18th
Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center
This exhibit showcases photography of Ridgefield residents taken by Joseph Hartmann in the late 1800s. The photos illustrate aspects of life for Ridgefield’s Italian immigrants in the Ridgefield community, sharing stories through photography.

Third Weekends
September 18th
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
Visit The Aldrich for free the third weekend of every month. See our current exhibitions and explore the Sculpture Garden. Current exhibitions include “Lucia Hierro: Marginal Costs” and “Hugo McCloud: from where i stand” among others.

Dog Day of Summer Scavenger Hunt
September 18th
All Around Town
ArtFul Visual Arts Initiative’s inaugural community-wide event, Bow WOW Art Dogs invites you to a Dog Days of Summer Scavenger Hunt, including various decorated dachshund dog statues hidden in and around local businesses in downtown Ridgefield. A scavenger hunt directory designating the locations of all completed dog statues will be available soon.

Autumn in the Air: Experience Ridgefield
September 18th & September 19th
All Around Town
Join us for a special weekend filled with arts & culture and special sidewalk shopping events happening all around town. Autumn in the Air is a great opportunity to Experience Ridgefield, explore our arts and cultural organizations, participate in family fun events, view the latest exhibits at Ridgefield’s museums and galleries, and enjoy exclusive offers from our local businesses.

Bow WOW Art Dogs – Leader of the Pack Fundraising Event
September 25th @ 6:00pm
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
ArtFul Visual Arts Initiative invites you to join us for an evening of community excitement at The Leader of the Pack Fundraiser Event to benefit ROAR, Ridgefield Guild of Artists and ArtFul. This will be the event to close out the silent auction, ArtFul celebration, awards, delicious bites, beer wine, and live music.

Ridgefield Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off and Festival
September 26th @ 10:00am
Ballard Park
Presented by the Connecticut Giant Pumpkin Growers Club, this year’s Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off will be bigger than ever! Pumpkins from the New England region compete for cash prizes, and attendees can meet the growers, listen to music, shop the farm stands, and enjoy activities. Musical entertainment, farm animal exhibits, pumpkin decorating contests, a pumpkin carving demonstration, and more will be part of the event.

Peter Parley Schoolhouse Open House
Sunday, August 29th @ 1:00pm
Hosted by Ridgefield Historical Society
The Peter Parley Schoolhouse will be open to visitors the last Sunday each month through October. Take a walk through and view the historic displays at this mid-18th century school. Jack and Sally Sanders, who help oversee the schoolhouse for the Ridgefield Historical Society, will be on hand to welcome guests and answer questions.

Smokey Joe’s Cafe
Opens September 30th
ACT of CT
Opening its doors again to live audiences, ACT of CT will present one of Broadway’s longest-running hits. Smokey Joe’s Cafe is a celebration of legendary songwriting team Leiber and Stoller, who virtually invented rock ’n’ roll. This high-energy and fast-paced show features some of the greatest songs ever recorded including “Jailhouse Rock”, “Stand By Me”, and others.
