Around Town in Ridgefield this August

August is here and Ridgefield is filled with things to do with the family or places to go on a spontaneous date night! From outdoor concerts to exhibits at our museums, dining at Ridgefield’s top restaurants, or taking a stroll through Main Street to take part in Ridgefield’s Summer Sidewalk Stroll – there’s something for everyone. All Month
Shops all around town are “Bringing it Outside” this summer in the Ridgefield Summer Sidewalk Stroll. During this summer-long event our wonderful local shops are extending shopping to the sidewalks. Enjoy the summer weather and check out all that Ridgefield has to offer – al fresco!

RPAC Gallery Exhibit
Starts August 6th, 2020
RPAC Gallery
This show features artist Lydia Larson along with other local talent. A weekend of previews for the new exhibit will begin on August 6th from 6pm – 9pm with light refreshments outside of the gallery and small groups allowed inside to explore the new exhibit – face masks required! Private showings also offered on Friday, August 7th from 12pm – 7pm, and another viewing Saturday, August 8th from 4pm – 7pm.

Babe 25th Anniversary

August 6th – 9th and August 15th – 16th
The Aldrich is welcoming visitors free of charge August 6th through August 9th along with August 15th and 16th on Third Weekends. See the current exhibitions, including last chance for Eva LeWitt’s “Untitled (Mesh A–J)” and “Weather Report”, on view through August 23, 2020. Visitors can also view exhibition-related films in The Studio, and listen to audio tours led by the curators via your smartphone or device. Generous support for free admission Third Weekends is provided by Ridgefield Thrift Shop and Fairfield County Bank.

Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center
Every Wednesday through August 26th, 2020
Join us at Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center every Wednesday afternoon from 1pm-4pm to play outdoor (socially-distanced) games like hoop and stick, croquet, or badminton. All games will be supervised by “Coach” Chris Browne, Keeler Kids Camp Director. Parents can either drop off children and/or relax in the walled garden (socially distanced) or participate in the games.

An outdoor concert presented by The Ridgefield Playhouse at Ballard Park! If you are a long time member of The Ridgefield Playhouse, you may remember when we first had Grace Potter on our stage as the opening act for Derek Trucks back in 2006 and then as a headliner for many years after that. We are lucky to yet again be hosting “one of the greatest living voices in rock today,” as described by Spin Magazine.

Join us in Ridgefield for Artwalk 2020! This event will kick off with artist meet and greets and will continue on Saturday, August 22 from noon to 4:00pm with an artist’s day. Demonstrations are also planned outside storefronts in town on Saturday. Accepted artists will be matched with participating merchants. This is a juried process. Accepted artists will be notified via email by August 7, 2020. All others will be placed on a waiting list. Art Walk Ridgefield is a fundraising event to benefit The Ridgefield Guild of Artists.

Christine O’Leary Comedy Graduation Showcase – Virtually Live!

Don’t miss this evening of rapid-fire stand-up comedy featuring award-winning comic Christine O’Leary and handpicked members of her stand-up comedy troop – Team Green Light Comedy. Christine O’Leary’s stand up students will take center stage — via Zoom — at Christine O’Leary & Friends: Virtually LIVE! O’Leary will host from the Ridgefield Playhouse, while her team delivers stellar sets from home, to allow for a large capacity online audience.

Votes for Women: Follow the Road to Victory Traveling Exhibition of Women’s Suffrage
Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center in the Carriage Barn

Votes for Women: The Road to Victory is a beautifully rendered, eleven-panel exhibition that seamlessly blends original artwork with a visually stimulating overview of Women’s Suffrage history in celebration of the centennial of the 19th Amendment. The colorful and playful panels depict various themes and periods of American Suffrage on the local, state, and national levels, outlining significant campaigns and famous suffragists including key Connecticut and Ridgefield proponents.
