Ridgefield storyteller and women’s studies scholar Dr. Darla Shaw will take on the role of Suffragist, Alice Paul, on January 28th @ 2:00 pm. Followed by a What’s Happening Tour of The Meetinghouse. You can see the great construction progress!

Presentation by Dr. Darla Shaw, Deborah Ahle, and Marie Pia Seirup:
Alice Paul was an American Quaker, suffragist, feminist, and women’s rights activist, and one of the foremost leaders and strategists of the campaign for the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits sex discrimination in the right to vote.
To celebrate Alice’s 139 birthday, Dr. Darla Shaw will take on the role of Alice and discuss how she was able to help with the passage of the 19th Amendment (Women’s Right to Vote) and her life in Ridgefield. Deborah Ahle will talk about working with Alice as a young nurse’s aide at Altna Craig where Alice spent her later years. Jean Cole will display the replica banner from the Women’s 1913 March on WDC and discuss its construction and meaning. Alice was one of ten women finalists for the new ten-dollar bill. Learn of Alice’s great work nationally and internationally regarding women’s rights.
