What’s Happening in Ridgefield this March

March has arrived and many of us are excited for warmer days ahead! There’s no shortage of great ways to indulge in the early spring season with the events going on in town. Between touring our historic downtown and art exhibits, entertainment from our theaters and musical talent, or simply making a day of it exploring Ridgefield’s cafes, shops, restaurants, and parks – there’s something for everyone #inRidgefield!

Did She Just Say That? Women’s Voices, Impropriety, and the Power of Speaking Up
March 4th @ 7:00pm
Co-sponsored event by the League of Women Voters of Ridgefield, Ridgefield Library, Keeler Tavern Museum, and Books on the Common
This cheerful and invigorating virtual discussion about securing a woman’s right to vote, a woman’s right to be heard, and to be regarded as fully an American citizen and human being, will be led by Gina Barreca, Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor at UCONN, humorist, and author of ten “trouble-making books.” Gina will also discuss her new book Fast Funny Women.

Shine A Light: The Rolling Stones
Friday, March 5th @ 7:30pm
The Ridgefield Playhouse
Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese provides a backstage pass to The Rolling Stones gig at the Beacon Theater in New York City. The documentary, mixed with archive interviews, was filmed over a two-day period, giving fans a glimpse of the band as they prepare to take the stage for the set of shows in the fall of 2006. Fans will also see three musical guests each perform a number with the Stones.

M3 & M4 Premiere Night

Virtual Poetry Playshop: “Shape” Up
Tuesday, March 16 @ 4:00pm
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
In this interactive workshop for all ages, explore concrete poetry – poems that take on shapes to create visual impact – while writing poems of your own in 2-D and 3-D stellular patterns. Suggested materials will be emailed in advance; no previous poetry-writing experience necessary. Register here.

Elvis – That’s The Way It Is
Friday, March 19th @ 7:30pm

This 1970 documentary, directed by Denis Sanders, captures Elvis Presley in one of the most intimate looks at Elvis captured on film. See the backstage footage from rehearsals to relaxing at the hotel leading up to his triumphant return to the concert stage after being absent for almost a decade. His series of Las Vegas concerts broke all box office records, became the stuff of legend and completely reenergized the career of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The Kids Are Alright: The Who Documentary
Friday, March 26th @ 7:30pm
The Ridgefield Playhouse
Jeff Stein’s pioneering rock music documentary combines promotional footage, television appearances and production crew- and fan-shot footage of rock legends The Who — on tour, in the studio and in their daily lives from 1964 until just before drummer Keith Moon’s death in September 1978. The film includes historic performances at Woodstock, guitar smashing on “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” and career-spanning hits from “My Generation” to “Pinball Wizard” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

CameraWorks 2021 seeks to show many types of photographic processes and methods and is open for all photographic mediums – film, digital, pinhole, lomography, photograms, encaustic, disposable, iphoneography, lenticular, photo transfers, videography. The Juror of this exhibit is Andrew ‘Dizz’ Delaney, Director, Head of Creative and Production, Custom Solutions, Getty Images.

Exhibition First Look: Tim Prentice
Monday, March 29 @ 5:00pm
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
Please join artist Tim Prentice for a virtual first look at his indoor solo exhibition After the Mobile, which features twenty of the artist’s kinetic sculptures. Prentice will be joined by his longtime collaborator, artist David Colbert, and Exhibitions Director Richard Klein, who curated the exhibition. 

Outdoor Guided Tours
All Month on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays
Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center
Two tours are available! A Short Walk Through Three Centuries and Gilberts at the Cannon Ball House. Trained docents will guide the tours and share some fascinating details about the lives of the past residents. Tours are suitable for all age groups, limited to 8 people per tour. Each tour will last about 45 minutes. Register online.
