About

In 1780, Lieutenant General Comte de Rochambeau and his army arrived in Newport, Rhode Island to help the Continental Army fight the British during the Revolutionary War. In order to meet with General George Washington in White Plains, Rochambeau’s troops passed through Connecticut and they stopped in Ridgefield along their way. Rochambeau’s army is believed to have traversed Ridgebury Road and visitors today can recreate the route these French soldiers took to New York. The official marker is located at the intersection of Ridgebury Road and Old Stagecoach Road.
