March Happenings in Ridgefield!

Despite the cold and snowy weather, spring is just around the corner! As the winter season begins to wind down, Ridgefield is on track to be busier than ever. So, put our town on your calendars and enjoy all that Ridgefield has to offer.

“Working”
Act of CT
Now until March 10th
“Working” is the extraordinary musical from Grammy and Academy Award Winner Stephen Schwartz. Based on Studs Terkel’s best selling-book, the musical tells stories about the typical American workday from the perspective of those that the world so often overlooks. This performance at ACT of CT will be a world-premiere version of “Working” and will feature new music by Lin-Manuel Miranda with additional contributions by Daniel C. Levine.

Camera Works 2019
Ridgefield Guild of Artists
March 2nd  to March 24th
Enjoy the works of talented and local photographers at RGA’s Camera Works Exhibit! This bi-annual juried photography show will display works of all themes and be juried by the internationally acclaimed photographer, Joe McNally. There will be an opening reception on March 2nd.

Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra Concert

The WYCO will be holding a concert in the Clune Auditorium at Wilton High School. Their string and wind ensemble will be performing alongside the symphony orchestra for an afternoon of beautiful classical music.

Winter Concert
Camerata d’Amici
March 3rd
The choral group Camerata d’Amici is proud to present its winter concert “Northern Lights!” Conducted by artistic director Kristin Sponheim, the program will feature a diverse repertoire of music inspired by images of winter. Also, there will be performances by the full group and a select chamber ensemble, men’s and women’s pieces, and several solos by spectacular vocalists.

Material Witness, Five Decades of Art
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
March 3rd to September 15th
The Aldrich is delighted to be the first museum to survey the work of trailblazing artist, feminist and lesbian scholar, curator, activist, and author Harmony Hammond. Spanning almost fifty years, the exhibit will bring together her earliest painted sculptures and sculpted paintings, mixed-media and monumental “installational” paintings of the 1980’s and 1990’s, and recent thickly painted “near monochromes.” There will an opening reception on March 3rd.

8th Annual RVNA Spelling Bee

The RVNA will be hosting their annual Spelling Bee at The Ridgefield Playhouse! This event brings together members of the community for a fun evening of friendly competition to benefit a great cause, the RVNA Nursing Education.

An Evening of One Acts
Ridgefield Theater Barn
March 8th- March 30th 
Come to the Ridgefield Theater Barn for their annual evening of One-Acts. Eight original, unpublished works, which celebrate life and relationships, will be featured. The Theater Barn has cabaret style seating and guests are invited to bring their own food and drink.

ROAR Annual Gala
ROAR
March 9th
Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue will present is annual gala and fundraising event at Le Chateau. Attendees will enjoy a cocktail reception, dinner, open bar, silent and live auctions, and live music from Candlewood. Also, Ridgefield resident Scott Linke, the 2019 ROAR Community Star Award honoree, and Ancona’s Wines and Liquors, the 2019 ROAR Business Star Award honoree, will be recognized at the event for their outstanding support.

The Lounsbury House will be tending bar at Gallo Ristorante! Come support this amazing landmark in Ridgefield and sip on a few delicious drinks!

High Art
Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra
March 16th
The RSO will perform Webern “Six Pieces of Orchestra,” Respighii “Trittico Botticelliano” and Haydn “Cello Concert in C Major” will acclaimed soloist Jay Campbell, and all under the direction of Maestro Yuga Cohler.

Hikes, Hops & Hooty
Woodcock Nature Center
March 21st 
Join the Woodcock Nature Center for a mini-fundraiser to support their resident animals! Gather by the fire in Woodcock’s pavilion for a hearty bite to eat and Nod Hill beer. Then, set out on the trails in search of owls and get a chance to encounter Hooty, the Center’s amazing Great Horned Owl.

Celebrity Bartending and Music Trivia Night

March 28th 
The Ridgefield Library will be serving up a few drinks at Gallo Ristorante! This fun-filled night will have tasty cocktails and music trivia. Come support the Ridgefield Library!

2019 Chilifest
Ridgefield Democrats
March 31st 
Chili lovers of all ages are invited to the 9th annual Chili Fest! Visitors may sample chilis by amateur chili cooks as well as professional chefs from local restaurants. All are welcome to enter their best chili recipe! This event is sponsored by Ridgefield Democrats.

The Aldrich will be bustling with special activities and wonderful exhibits throughout March. In addition to kid-friendly workshops and artist discussions, the museum will be opening a new exhibit featuring the work of Harmony Hammond.

The Playhouse has a great line-up of entertainment for the month of March. Renowned musicians, singers, dancers, and comedians will all be taking center stage. Some highlights include Barbara Eden & Hal Linden in A.R. Gurney’s “Love Letters,” Tape Face, The Machine, and Blythe Danner.
