Groundhog Day – 30th Anniversary Screening

Selma – Free Diversity Film Screening

In recognition of Black History Month: Selma is the story of a movement set in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The bonus content for Selma will include an interview with Karen Boykin-Towns, Vice Chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Board of Directors, led by entertainment reporter Cheryl Washington.

Art historian and educator Mallory Mortillaro will present an ARTalk about Ukrainian-born photographer Weegee. This lecture explores the mythology behind the photographer and how he went on to be one of New York City’s most important artists.

“Cameraworks” Exhibit

This exhibit will feature photographic arts from the most traditional to the least conventional formats in black and white or color, film or digital, photo collage, montage, and videos The juror will be Paula Tognarelli, cultural administrator and curator and Executive Director of the Griffin Museum of Photography where she produced on average 54 exhibitions a year.

Workshop: Can It Be My Home? with Artist Hangama Amiri

Join the museum for a special three-hour fabric workshop led by artist Hangama Amiri. Participants will learn directly from Amiri about her work and practice, while reflecting and sharing their own ideas of home, whether it is a place, a person, a dish, a scent, or an object. Amiri will lead the group through a process of developing ideas into drawings and further into a textile piece to take back home.
