August is here and Ridgefield is filled with events happening in town! From music events and outdoor concerts, to art exhibits at our galleries and museums, performances at our theaters, or simply enjoying a night out on the town – there’s something for everyone. Enjoy the last full month of summer with the great events happening this month.

Charles Ives Music Festival
August 4th, 6th, 7th, and 11th
Hosted by the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra
The Charles Ives Music Festival (CIMF) at the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra explores the history and legacy of American composer Charles Ives through concerts and educational events. CIMF’s Summer 2021 Artist Concert Series, called “The Promise of Living,” is a homage to the movement of the same title from Aaron Copland’s opera, The Tender Land.

Phillip Phillips

Outdoors at the Ridgefield Playhouse Tent
Enjoy this special performance at the Ridgefield Playhouse Tent! Since releasing his five-times-platinum debut single “Home” after winning American Idol in spring 2012, Phillip Phillips has released two chart-topping albums and taken his expansive brand of earthy, guitar-fueled rock to stages across the globe.

Whose Barn is it Anyway?
Saturday, August 7th @ 8:00pm
Ridgefield Theater Barn
Our resident Improv Group, The Role in the Hay Players, return for a hilarious evening of fun and antics. So be prepared to enter a wacky world of anything-goes insanity, because the only thing that is predictable is an evening of laughs for everyone. All tables are generously spaced, seating is limited.

The Divas
Opens August 13th
Ridgefield Theater Barn
The Divas, a series of interconnected one-act plays written by Jack Neary, directed by Michael Ferrara, featuring Catherine Cavender, Deborah Connelly, Timothy Huber, Nancy Sinacori, and Tarah Vega, opens August 13 and runs through August 22 at the Ridgefield Theater Barn. Performances are Fridays & Saturdays. The Divas follows the adventures of two seasoned actresses as they navigate their way across a life of theater.

Yoga and Art for Kids: Move Like the Wind
August 16th @ 10:00am
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
Join Aldrich Educator Susie Buckley and Education Assistant Lorena Sferlazza at the Museum for guided yoga and art-making, inspired by the wind-moving sculptures of exhibiting artist Tim Prentice. Together, we will explore a work of art in our galleries, then move outdoors for light stretching, yoga-based movement, and creating our very own wind mobiles.

Sculpture Garden Family Tour: Stella’s Stars
Friday, August 20th @ 1:00pm
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
The historical arc of Stella’s use of the star travels from the minimal to the maximal, with the recent star sculptures frequently exhibiting a corruption of the form as well as a wild diversity of materials and fabrication techniques. Join us in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden with your family for a socially-distanced, interactive tour of Frank Stella’s Stars, A Survey.

RidgeCon Lite 2021
Saturday, August 21st @ 10:00am
Ridgefield Library Lawn
The Library’s all-age, awesome, free celebration of pop culture explores the universes of manga, Marvel, DC Comics, Disney, Star Wars, and more! This fun family event will feature a Paw Patrol Police Car petting zoo, Graham Clarke interactive family concert, Take & Makes for kids of all ages, family scavenger hunts, raffles, and more. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

Movie Night: Zootopia
Saturday, August 21st @ 7:30pm
Martin Park Beach
The Ridgefield Police Benevolent Association has teamed up with Ridgefield Parks and Recreation for a free showing of Disney’s Zootopia. Bring a blanket and enjoy! Tickets are free and available for purchase online, limited to 30 families. Movie snacks will be available for purchase on the beach.

The Ridgefield Playhouse Summer Gala with Michael Franti
Sunday, August 22nd @ 5:30pm
The Ridgefield Playhouse
Join The Ridgefield Playhouse Gala to see the globally recognized musician, humanitarian, activist, and award-winning filmmaker, Michael Franti, in this special live show! The pre-show cocktail party includes an open bar and hors d’oeuvres from various area restaurants before the performance. The evening also includes one of a kind auction items for all ticket holders to bid on. Keep the arts alive in our area and support this 20th Anniversary summer of our beloved Performing Arts Center.


“The Suburbs” by Thrown Stone

Opens August 26th
Thrown Stone has commissioned three new plays by Tony Meneses, Phanésia Pharel, and Catherine Yu. These short, site-specific works will be performed in sequence at Keeler Tavern Museum and History Center, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, and West Lane Inn as a single “roving production” where the audience follows the action from location to location. The plays will explore the theme of The Suburbs, with Ridgefield in the starring role.

Art Walk 2021
Starts August 27th
Downtown Ridgefield
The Ridgefield Guild of Artists presents Art Walk Ridgefield, when the streets of downtown Ridgefield turn into a strolling art gallery.Art Walk Ridgefield kicks off with artist meet and greets outside the stores and continues on with an artists’ day, demonstrations, and more! Art Walk Ridgefield is a fundraising event to benefit The Ridgefield Guild of Artists.

Yoga at Woodcock
Saturday, August 28th @ 8:30am
Woodcock Nature Center
Align body, mind & spirit among the forests of Woodcock Nature Center with Jessica Outlaw, registered yoga teacher. This hatha yoga practice for adults of all levels and abilities will be sure to fully awaken your senses and connect you more deeply to yourself and the natural world with asanas (postures), proper breathing and deep relaxation. Registration required.


Peter Parley Schoolhouse Open House

Sunday, August 29th @ 1:00pm
Hosted by Ridgefield Historical Society
The Peter Parley Schoolhouse — officially the West Lane School — will be open to visitors for the first time since 2019, the last Sunday each month through October. Originally built in the mid-18th Century, the schoolhouse for the West Lane district was replaced with the larger current building in the early 19th Century. Its informal name, the Peter Parley Schoolhouse, pays tribute to Samuel G. Goodrich, who attended the school from 1799 to 1803 and later wrote a series of popular textbooks for children under the pen name, Peter Parley.

Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center
Keeler Tavern Museum and Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra are excited for this season’s final Music at the Museum performance by the Angry O’Haras, rescheduled from July 12th. This is a free outdoor concert, bring your own chairs or blankets and enjoy!


CHIRP Concerts

Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 7:00pm
Ballard Park
CHIRP concerts are a free summer music series in Ballard Park located in the heart of Ridgefield. CHIRP is totally funded by individual and foundation donations as well as contributions from local businesses. CHIRP Concerts are co-sponsored by the town of Ridgefield through its Parks & Recreation, and The Ridgefield Press. View the complete lineup here

Bow WOW Art Dogs in Ridgefield

Bow WOW Art Dogs is a community-wide event that benefits ROAR Animal Rescue, The Ridgefield Guild of Artists, and The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. ArtFul’s inaugural public art event celebrates the power of visual arts in our community. As you stroll through the Town of Ridgefield, get to know the Bow WOW Art Dogs and save the date for the Leader of the Pack Silent Auction event on September 25th!
