Join us for a panel discussion with artist Duane Slick, in conversation with Native American Studies scholar Dr. Cutcha Risling Baldy, and Dr. Jon Way, founder of Eastern Coyote/Coywolf Research. The panel will be moderated by Richard Klein, Exhibitions Director and curator of Duane Slick: The Coyote Makes the Sunset Better.
This discussion will focus on the ways the Coyote (coyote animal or coywolf) influences their work and research. Each of the panelists provide a unique perspective across disciplines on the significance of the Coyote to this land and its peoples. This event will broaden the discussion around the Coyote prompting reflection across real and imagined boundaries, delving into Indigenous oral traditions and beliefs, wildlife management, etymology, behavior, and more – all the while challenging colonialism and its legacies.
This Zoom panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A.
