Join us at the Ridgefield Library on Sunday June 19th for this very special free theatrical event commemorating the anniversary of the end of Slavery and celebrating Juneteenth.
Unheard Voices, a riveting monologue play with music and drumming and written by Judy Tate from the American Slavery Project , brings to life a moment in time that might have been and gives voice to those African-descended individuals who lived, loved, laughed, and endured on the streets of 17th- and 18th-century NYC. It will run for one hour, followed by a talkback.
The American Slavery Project commissioned 17 writers to examine the 419 graves of the anonymous men, women and children who lived in colonial New York and are buried at the African Burial Ground. The writers imagined their lives. These are their voices.
Co-sponsored with the Michael Chekhov Theater Festival.
