The Ridgefield Arts Council invites local artists, art lovers and creative professionals to the next installment of “The Generator.” The networking event will feature three speakers discussing their respective artistic endeavors, and will be held at 7:30pm, Monday, August 9th at RPAC Gallery.

During the event, artists, writers and performers gather with the goal of learning, sharing, and networking with others to enhance both their creative process and their careers.  The events feature innovative speakers, arts demonstrations and presentations geared toward the creative community.

Will Cook, from Mt. Kisco, NY, has a lifelong passion for visual storytelling and has found his niche in the area of fine art photography. Cook is most known for his work in long exposure and light painting. By studying the way the camera interprets lights, he captures a painterly aesthetic that can be observed in his images. His unique style has led him to an extensive collector clientele and notable commissions that include: Images and Impressions Magazine, Nick Bonino of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Town of Cortland, NY. His extensive portfolio of commercial clients includes: Architectural Digest, Hook Magazine, Record Review, and BBC of Brazil just to name a few. A graduate of Fordham University School of Social Services, Cook is a trained psychotherapist, and currently a resident artist at RPAC Gallery located in Ridgefield CT. Cook will discuss various light painting techniques, along with showing examples of his work.

Joseph Belisle is the author and illustrator of the new children’s book, What if Wilhelmina. The book is based on a true family story and it recently launched in early 2021 from Blair Publishing. Belisle is also the Coordinator & Lead Adult Facilitator of the Kids In Crisis LGBTQ teen group, Lighthouse. Belisle will be reading from his newly published children’s book, What if Wilhelmina, and explaining not only about how he wrote and illustrated the book, but how he was inspired to use classical artwork to help inform the story. At first glance, this may look like other children’s books, but a closer look reveals the clever way in which he weaves some of art history’s greatest artworks into his illustrations. He’ll talk about his creative process and will also be reading from his new book that’s still in development, What if Monday is a Monster.

Mark Cupkovic, cellist, retired from the New York Botanical Garden in 2019 after 26 years of service as the VP for Security and Operations and Chief Sustainability Officer. Prior to that he owned a Construction Company based in Manhattan for 13 years. “I came to New York in 1977 as an ambitious young cellist but quickly found that my skills as a carpenter allowed me to make a living as I pursued a parallel career in music.” He is a member of the Danbury Symphony Orchestra, and currently working on future solo performance projects as he continues to dedicate time to practice. Cupkovic is also a member of the College of Creative Arts, Advisory Board at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) where he completed his undergraduate work in Cello Performance.

Following the brief presentations, members of The Generator will be encouraged to mix and mingle with presenters and each other. Creative types who live in and around Ridgefield are welcome to attend. Cost of attending The Generator is $10 at the door, which covers the cost of wine and light snacks.
