“The Generator” at Keeler Tavern Museum

Ridgefield, CT- The Ridgefield Arts Council invites local artists and creative professionals to the next installment of “The Generator.” The networking event will feature three speakers discussing their respective artistic endeavors, and will be held at 7:30pm, Monday, October 15th at the Keeler Tavern Museum’s Garden Room.

During the event, artists, writers and performers gather with the goal of learning, sharing, and networking with others to enhance both their creative process and their careers.  The events are managed via the website Meetup.com and feature innovative speakers, arts demonstrations and presentations geared toward the creative community.

Mark Alexander is a professional pianist, recording artist and, a popular piano teacher at Sharps and Flats in Ridgefield. He has performed and recorded with Meatloaf, Joe Cocker, The Rascals, Little Stevie Van Zandt and performs frequently on Broadway. Mark is a classically trained pianist but his passion pulled him towards rock, blues and, R&B. Mark will be playing and discussing New Orleans R&B, which is a style that predated Rock & Roll and influenced early Rock &Roll artists. New Orleans R&B is a great example of how music and art created in diverse communities reflect the melding of the cultural landscape

Hildi Grob, Executive Director of Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center, will be discussing the transformation of Ridgefield’s most historic site from a historic house museum to a regional history center where visitors of all ages come to learn about three centuries of local history as a window onto the national experience and its relevance for contemporary citizenship and civic culture. Grob holds a BA in Education and an MA in Journalism and has been working with history-related organizations for ten years. She has three adult children and does her daily commute from Sherman, CT.

Geoffrey Morris runs TownVibe Media, which publishes Ridgefield Magazine and five other leading regional lifestyle magazines. He is executive director of the Ridgefield Independent Film Festival, which takes place October 18-21. In talking about the 60-plus films, dozen talks, and numerous networking opportunities, he will discuss the film festival as a powerful forum for ideas, stories, and connections and how the four-day festival incorporates many different disciplines of art to fulfill its mission to inspire, entertain, and educate.

Following the brief presentations, members of The Generator will be encouraged to mix and mingle with presenters and each other.  Creative types who live in and around Ridgefield are welcome to attend.  Cost of attending The Generator is $5 for pre-registration (via meetup.com/The-Generator-Ridgefield-CT) or $10 at the door, which covers the cost of wine and light snacks.
