Event Details

Attention, Book Lovers!

As part of the Ridgefield Library’s series Seeing Beyond: The Works and Vision of H.G. Wells, the Ridgefield Library will have a one-time book group to discuss The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. It is a lavish historical drama reimagining of The Island of Doctor Moreau set against the backdrop of nineteenth-century Mexico.

Moreno-Garcia is the author of several novels, including Velvet Was the Night, Mexican GothicGods of Jade and Shadow and Untamed Shore. Mexican by birth, Canadian by inclination.

“The brilliant and unstoppable Silvia Moreno-Garcia continues to weave her magic in this smart, sinister fable about social inequality and exploitation, isolation and abuse of power. Morena-Garcia has given us an extraordinary heroine in Carlota, a young woman who can’t know until she’s tested how much power is hers to claim. Both lacerating and deeply empathetic, the story satisfies the reader on every page.” -Paula McLain, author of The Paris Wife

The Library will have copies to borrow or can help you to get one from another library.  Please register for the event.

This program is part of our H.G. Wells series, made possible by the generosity of the Friends of the Ridgefield Library.  Click here to see the full line up related events for the entire family!
