Event Details
Jesse Lee Church, the Town of Ridgefield Social Services, the Association of Religous Communities in Danbury and generous Ridgefielders, are coming together to make Shoebox Gifts for seniors and kids in need in our communities this holiday season.
To participate, please use this link to tell us which kind of box (age and gender) you’ll be preparing. Then bring a box (can be decorated but not fully wrapped – with a lid, preferably sealed with a rubber band) filled up with items of interest for that age (see below for popular gift ideas). There will be a table for Shoebox Gifts in the Narthex if you are visiting when the church is open, and the Shoebox Gift Donation Station inside the double doors facing Main Street will be open for people to drop off their gifts.
The need for Shoebox Gifts continues to be high this year so we hope that we can all make even more shoeboxes than usual this year to help those who are in need this holiday season.
You can drop your Shoebox Gift off at the Donation Station at Jesse Lee Church at 207 Main Street in Ridgefield. You can leave your gift inside the double doors that face Main Street anytime between November 1st and December 4. Thank you!
IMPORTANT DETAILS:
Deadline: The deadline to contribute shoeboxes is Sunday, December 4.
A few guidelines: All items must be new (not used). Either purchase a pre-decorated shoebox from Michael’s or Christmas Tree Shop or wrap the top and bottom of a shoebox separately. Fill the shoebox full of approved items. Please don’t include weapons, items of war or easily breakable items such as glass. Gift receipts may be included so that an exchange for size or color may be made. Gift cards may also be included.
Labels: Please use the labels, taping them to the top of your shoebox. Click the button to the right to download and print both the labels (p. 2) and the instructions (p. 1).
Suggested items for Children: Small toys, school supplies, balls, games, cards, candy, art supplies, books, stuffed animal/doll, mittens, scarves, hats, gloves, hair bands, Christmas ornaments, bows, personal care items, socks, shirts etc. Pinterest online has many creative ideas as well.
Suggested items for Older Adults: Chapstick, slippers, fancy tissues, mints, flashlight/batteries, socks, gloves, hats, scarves, puzzle books, hard candy, pens/pencils, greeting cards, stamps, notecards, hand cream, personal care items, nail care set, Christmas ornaments, games.
If you want to participate but don’t have time to make a box, you can donate through the link above on the right side of the screen and we will make a shoebox gift for you.
Please contact either Debbie Ahle or Jennifer Mayette, or the church office 203-438-8791 with questions.
