LAST CHANCE "Wild Things" Exhibit

10julAll DayLAST CHANCE "Wild Things" ExhibitD. Colabella Fine Art Gallery

Event Details

D.Colabella Fine Art Gallery, located at 446 Main Street, Ridgefield, is pleased to present “Wild Things: An Exploration of the Familiar and Otherworldly” featuring the work of abstract painter Charles Gulbrandsen and painter/sculptor Will Woodrow.

The exhibition features work in various media including oil on canvas, 3-D printing, and metalworks. While distinct in both medium and flare, the work of Charles Gulbrandsen and Will Woodrow intersect at the place of nostalgic wonder. In his abstract work, Charles consistently renders luminous bursts of cosmic energy that draw from his inner world and familial history.

By contrast, though with similar frenetic curiosity, Will Woodrow expresses his fascination with iconography from our contemporary social conscious to create sculptures using innovation, current technologies, and traditional metalworking methods that are simultaneously familiar and uncanny. Together, these artists seem to blur the line between the familiar and the unknown, the recognizable and the ambiguous.

ABOUT CHARLES GULBRANDSEN
After graduating from The Cooper Union in 1985, having been awarded the Vena T. Carrol prize for achievement in painting, Charles began a storied career in art restoration. He participated in the restoration of the celestial ceiling of Grand Central Terminal, which his grandfather had painted in 1945. In 1996, Charles opened his own painting studio concentrating on the execution of large-scale murals and private commissions which he maintained until 2016. At this time, Charles changed the trajectory of his career by returning to his abstract roots. In addition to teaching and painting, he continues to exhibit his work in galleries throughout the New York area.

ABOUT WILL WOODROW
Will Woodrow has always made art. An Indianapolis-based artist, Will is a self-taught painter/sculptor. He has an extensive background as a commercial tradesman which is reflected in his current use of cement, fiberglass, canvas, metal, and 3D printmaking in his art. In addition to being a visual artist, Will has enjoyed a career on stage performing and touring with several bands. Behind the scenes, he writes, creates, arranges, produces, and records musical composition that is available across all streaming platforms. Recent art exhibitions include shows in the Midwest and New England and musical engagements include The Will Woodrow Project and “Starve the Beast.”
