Please join us to celebrate the opening of Helena Hernmarck: Weaving In Progress, the master weaver’s first solo museum exhibition in 20 years. During this exhibition the gallery space will function as the artist’s weaving studio three days a week with Hernmarck, and her apprentice Mae Colburn, working at a five-foot-wide Glimåkra Countermarch loom during Museum hours. Additionally, a selection of Hernmarck’s exquisite tapestries will be on view. This exhibition transforms The Aldrich from a place of looking to a place of making. Hernmarck and Colburn will be on site at the opening reception to speak about the tapestries and their process. The public is invited to touch the vibrant wool used by Hernmarck and witness weaving in progress.
Aldrich alumna artist Risa Puno will welcome visitors to the Sculpture Garden for an all-ages, participatory workshop inspired by her interactive installation currently on view. Common Ground, a grid of connected tables and benches each tiled with a different mosaic design, celebrates harmony and inclusion through diversity.
Members, please join us from 2:30 to 3 pm for a private meet and greet with the artist.
A white wine and light bites reception will be served on the Museum’s front terrace.
Generous support for Helena Hernmarck: Weaving In Progress is provided by The Coby Foundation and Eric G. Diefenbach and James Keith Brown.
