Event Details

Join us at the Ridgefield Library as we continue to celebrate Native American Heritage Month in November!

On Monday, November 14th at 4:30 pm, we welcome Darlene Kascak (Schaghticoke Tribal Nation), from The Institute for American Indian Studies.  She will give an interactive presentation for students in Grades 3-5 on the 10,000-year history of Life in the Eastern Woodlands. Immerse yourself in the lifeways of Native Americans in the past and present day.

Darlene, who is the Education Coordinator at IAIS and Traditional Native American Storyteller, will share various visual and tactile resources to guide the discussion about how Eastern Woodlands Natives have adapted to their changing environment. With hands-on activities, you will learn the importance of working together for the sake of the community, innovation through knowledge of natural resources, and how that knowledge can benefit everyone today. She will have animal furs, replicated artifacts, organic instruments, and more contemporary items, for an interactive and educational experience.
