Ridgefield Guild of Artists is proud to present a special show, Coming of Age…70 artists over 60, running from April 9th – May 8th at their gallery barn on Halpin Lane. Nancy Moore is guest curator for this exhibition, and its production has been going on for months. She selected the seventy artists, visited studios to choose artwork to be presented, coordinated statements from each participant, and is designing the exhibition with the help from the Guild exhibition team.
This is not Moore’s first foray into special shows at the Guild. In the past, she has curated The Women, Continuum, By a Thread, and was ready to present #metoo when COVID closed everyone down for an extended period of time. “Now, with Coming of Age, her creativity and professionalism are back at the Guild,” said Mary Pat Devine, President of RGOA. “And, we couldn’t be happier to bring Nancy’s vision to our community.”
With her concept in mind, Nancy Moore began her process with this question: “What happens to the passion, vision, and creative drive of visual artists as they age?” The answers to this question are as varied and deep as the work of the 70 artists represented in Coming of Age.
This is an invitational show that features men and women who are alive in their work, vital in their practice, and communicating through their creativity. It is no small thing to continue a creative practice for many decades, to keep discovering what one is capable of, and to translate that knowledge into art. “Most artists work in isolation, yet they create their own vibrant energy. From April 9th through May 8th, in the galleries at the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, they and their work are all vibrating together!”
An opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, April 9th from 4-7pm. It is free and all are welcome. The Guild’s antique barn is located at 34 Halpin Lane, at the bottom of the hill just before Ridgefield’s Rail Trail. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday – Sunday, 12-4pm.
