This free, in-person ARTalk at the Ridgefield Library on Sunday, March 12th explores the work of French Impressionist Berthe Marie Pauline Morisot (1841-1895). Morisot captured her world in a vibrant, changing style, often focusing on modern young women and children as her subject matter.
Dr. Michael Norris will follow Morisot’s life’s arc as a distinguished female artist in her own right and reveal how she became Édouard Manet’s favorite model. Édouard introduced her to his brother Eugène, whom she married and who then devoted his life to furthering Morisot’s career, making the pair a fixture in late-19th-century Parisian culture.
Dr. Norris received his B.A. and M.A. in classics from the University of California at San Diego. He received his Ph.D. in art history at the University of California at Santa Barbara. For twenty years he worked at both the Cloisters Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and has lectured on trips all over the world.
