Why acceptance matters
According to the Trevor Project’s 2022 Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health:
– LGBTQ youth who live in a community that is accepting of LGBTQ people reported significantly lower rates of attempting suicide than those who do not
– Nearly 2 in 5 LGBTQ youth reported living in a community that is somewhat or very unaccepting of LGBTQ people
– LGBTQ youth who report having at least one accepting adult were 40% less likely to report a suicide attempt in the past year (Trevor Project 2019 report)

“Ridgefield CT Pride is working to ensure that all of our LGBTQ+ community members, allies, family and friends know that they are valued and cared about, not just one day a year, but every day. Pride in the Park and Pride month offer opportunities for our community including individuals and businesses to come together and show our support for our LGBTQ+ neighbors. Pride Support Groups offer ongoing support for our LGBTQ+ youth and their families. We are all unique in our own ways and that is what makes us special. Diversity is a strength!”– Alisa Trachtenberg, Ridgefield CT Pride
